THE Extraordinary Weekend! :)

So this weekend was not what I expected…. Nope… It was soooo much better!

It all started Saturday morning with my service trip down to Pittsburgh with RockCatholic to the food bank.  I was not quite sure what I expect when I signed up for the half-day trip but I soon realized that my job was to stand in an assembly line in a church parking lot and pass out bags of apples to all our clients that morning! Not only was this a fun and interactive service project, but I also got to work along other stewards who passed out canned foods, onions, carrots, and meats right along side me! I am pleased to say that this is one of the best service trips I have been on in a long time and it was awesome to help put smiles on the 650 homeless and needy families that came to get food that morning! Ah doesn’t doing service just make you happy?? 🙂 🙂

Cool enough, when I came back to campus my family had just arrived from Cleveland for the SRU’s annual Family and Friends Weekend!  During this weekend, many events take place on campus to help make our family members and friends feel welcome! Some of these included Pizza with the President on Saturday afternoon, ARC passes to workout, and the annual Family Friends Weekend football game against West Chester! Upon my family’s arrival, we headed straight for Boozel Dining Hall where my little brother greatly enjoyed the all-you-can-eat meal, especially the ice cream bar!   Yummy!

Then to THE GAME. Yes I’m calling it THE GAME because it was one of the best football games that many alumni said SRU has ever played!  Not only was the team on fire, but also The Rock Cheerleaders and Band who put on a great show at half-time and throughout the game!  To sum it up real quick—the game was close… too close. And with both teams going neck to neck throughout the second half, it was no surprise that the game went into overtime! Thankfully, SRU got the coin toss and scored on their first drive! But they missed the field goal!?!? So that meant that they HAD to stop West Chester from scoring and…. They did!  It was awesome! The fans went crazy and stormed the field to get into the players’ victory mosh-pit at the 50 yard line- it honestly is a game I will remember for a long time! Oh the fun times I will remember here at Slippery Rock! 🙂

Well that’s all for now!

Have a great week and keep shining!

Until next time….

Kaitlin 🙂
